Pioneering Fixed Wireless |
|
Back in early 1990s, demand for telephone connections far exceeded the expansion of network infrastructure. In big cities, a lot of customers had to wait for years to get a telephone number. Bakrie Telecom, then still under the name RATELINDO, became the first country's fixed wireless telephone service provider. Using the Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) technology, we helped hundreds of thousands of small businesses and households get connected to the Public Service Telephone Network (PSTN) run by PT TELKOM. Today, we provide fixed and limited-mobility wireless services to a growing number of highly satisfied customers. We also provide mobile data services to corporate and individual customers. Bakrie Telecom has also forged an alliance with Nokia, ensuring wide availability of CDMA devices. Some of Nokia's latest CDMA handsets are available exclusively through Esia. Facts SheetPT RATELINDO, precursor of Bakrie Telecom, began providing wireless "last mile" connection to Indonesia 's PSTN in 1995. In September 2004, Bakrie Telecom began offering CDMA-based limited mobility services under the brand Esia, allowing subscribers in Jakarta , West Java and Banten to use mobile phone services within limited areas with the same charges as the fixed wireline offered by the PSTN operator. Bakrie Telecom still keeps the Ratelindo's ETDMA, besides running & developing the CDMA-based limited mobility services. Now, Bakrie Telecom has 3 brands, which are Esia, Wifone & Wimode, for offering the CDMA-based limited mobility services. Today, there are one thousand CDMA devices with color display, cameras and GPS capabilities available on the market.
