1993August 1993 - Bakrie Telecom was first established as PT RATELINDO. A subsidiary of diversified and publicly-listed PT Bakrie & Brothers, Tbk. The Indonesian Government then awarded the company license to deliver telecommunication services in the Greater Jakarta Area, West Java and Banten Provinces with a 10 MHz bandwidth in the 800 MHz frequency spectrum. Initially, the wireless service was based on the Extended Time Division Multiple Access (ETDMA). It was meant to complement the fixed wireline provided by PT TELKOM, the sole PSTN operator at that time.
20032004September 2004 - Bakrie Telecom's management was strengthened by a team of highly capable professionals, bringing in extensive worldwide marketing experience in the telecommunication industry and consumer goods. The team immediately took the steps to improve various aspects of the business, including the network capability and reach, sales distribution, customer relationship management (CRM) and marketing.
20052005 - The company signed a Memorandum of Understanding with a prominent national telecom operator in Indonesia . The alliance will enable both sides to operate nationwide at the same time reduce network rollout costs and time-to-market. September 2005 – The Government of Indonesia awarded the company a license that enable Bakrie Telecom to operate nationally.
20062006 – The company goes public listed in The Jakarta Stock Exchange. September 2006 - Bakrie Telecom launch a fixed wireless phone product called Wifone. September 2006 - Bakrie Telecom is the first private company to sign an Integrity Pact to comply to Good Corporate Governance (GCG) standards. Sofyan Djalil, Minister for Communications and Informatics and coordinator of the Government's "Tiga Pilar Kemitraan" program witnessed BTEL's senior management sign the pact. December 2006 - The company was officially awarded National License by the government. With this license, Bakrie Telecom has the opportunity to expand the network and services of Esia and Wifone to Indonesian people. End 2006 - Bakrie Telecom has reached 1,5 million customers.
